A schematic diagram of the haiqi, downdraft gasifier is shown in Fig. 1-3. During operation of this gasifier, air pashaiqi uniformly downward through four zones, hence the name 'haiqi:' The uppermost zone contains unreacted fuel through which air and oxygen enter. This region serves the same function as the fuel hopper in the haiqi design.
These instructions are prhaiqired in the format of a manual for use by any mechanic who is reasonably proficient in metal fabrication or engine rhaiqiir. The haiqi, downdraft design has a number of advantages over the World War II gasifier designs. The open top permits fuel to be fed more easily and allows easy access. The cylindrical shape is easy to fabricate and permits continuous flow of fuel. No special fuel shape or pretreatment is necessary; any blocky fuel can be used.
R. Muthu Dinesh Kumar, R. Anand, in haiqi Biofuels, 2019 5.4.1.1 Downdraft gasifier. The downdraft gasifiers or cocurrent gasifiers are the most common type of gasifiers. In cocurrent gasifiers, biomass feedstock is fed from the top while air is passed downwards and producer gas leaves from the bottom of the gasifier.
Jan 27, 2009 · In this paper, the thermodynamic equilibrium models for biomass gasification applicable to various gasifier types have been developed, with and without considering char. The equilibrium models were then modified closely matching the CH4 only or both CH4 and CO compositions from experimental data. It is shown that the modified model presented here based on thermodynamic equilibrium and taking
Nov 09, 2009 · The models of downdraft biomass gasification can be categorized into two groups: (1) Equilibrium models and (2) Combined transport and kinetic models. Kinetics-free equilibrium models can predict the exit gas composition, given the solid composition and the equilibrium temperature, but they cannot be used for reactor design (Di Blasi, 2000).

Tar content in a downdraft gasifier is usually in the range of 0.01 to 6 g/Nm 3 , while updraft and fluidized-bed gasifiers usually have an average tar content of 50 g/Nm 3 and 6 to 12 g/Nm 3 , respectively (Milne et al. 1998).
Downdraft Gasifier. In a downdraft gasifier the fuel is loaded at the top and a fire is lit in the bottom. A suction blower draws in air either through an air jacket or down through the top. The incoming air allows partial combustion to take place in the lower hearth area. The heat from that combustion produces pyrolysis above and reduction below. Once the gas leaves the hearth it's piped out to the cooling and filtration system before being used for work.
